Question #85819

Does the amount of water that the sodium carbonate and calcium chloride crystals dissolved in, affect the amount of the precipitate that forms?

Expert's answer

Na2CO3(aq) + CaCI2(aq)\to 2NaCl(aq)+CaCO3(s)

Yes, water will affect precipitate mass. Calcium carbonate has a solubility in pure water ~15 mg/L at 25°C. With every liter of water, the mass of sediment will decrease by 15mg.
