Consider the reaction
2NO+O2 -> 2NO2
Suposse that in a particular moment nitric oxide is reacting at the rate of 0.066 M/s. What rate is NO2 being formed? What rate is molecular oxygen reacting?

Solution: a) 2 moles of NO react to form 2 moles of NO 2 This is a 1:1 ratio This means that NO 2 will form at the same rate that NO reacts, because as 1 mole of NO reacts 1 mole of NO 2 forms. Thus rate NO 2 is formed at will be 0.066 M/s b) 2 moles NO reacts with 1 mol O 2 A 2:1 ratio The O 2 will dissapear at half the rate of the NO, because 1 moles NO needs 1/2 mole O 2 to react. So rate of reaction of O 2 will be 0.033 M/s
