Question

Hi, My son is in Yr 7 and is putting together a science project on atoms. He has been asked to show that he can 'link the behaviour of atoms within substances to why elements, but not lone atoms, exhibit properties' and also 'I can use information given to draw conclusions about how the properties of atoms contribute to the properties of elements'. If you could point us in the right direction on what to research/read to help him answer these - have tried looking in text books and trying google search, but we're both at a loss!! Many thanks

Chemistry of the Elements, Second Edition [ N. N.Greenwood, A. Earnshaw] its very good, but hard book.
