Answer to Question #67454 in General Chemistry for fahad

Question #67454
For example hydrogen has 1 proton abd 1 electron.and deutrium has 2 proton 1 neutron and 2 electron similarly tritium has 3 proton 3 electron and 2 neutron..... my question is if Atomic mass increase due to the increase in neutrons, will there be an increased force of attraction between electrons and nucleus? or in other words is more energy required to excite electrons from its shells as its atomic mass increase?

The strength of the interaction between electrons and protons is determined by the law of the coulomb.
The strength of the interaction depends on the charges and the distance between them, and does not depend on the atomic mass.
The larger the radius of an atom, the easier an electron leaves the last energy level.
