Answer to Question #66457 in General Chemistry for Jiajing

Question #66457
How does Zinc neutralise sulphuric acid?
From what I know, a reaction between an acid and metal neutralises the acid but I do not understand how that happens since OH- ions are not released by the metal to neutralist the H+ ions in the acid.

Zinc reacts differently to H₂SO₄. It depends on the concentration of acids:

1. Zn+H₂SO₄Dilute=ZnSO₄+H₂; Zinc atoms change H⁺, which forms H₂; Zn-reducing agent, H⁻- oxidizer
2. 4Zn+5H₂SO₄Concentrated=4ZnSO₄+H₂S+4H₂O; Zn-reducing agent; S⁺⁶ - oxidizer
