(a) The imperial (UK) gallon is officially defined as 4.54609 litres. Then, a barrel with a 45gal capacity contains 45 x 4.54609 = 204.6 litres.

(b) The imperial (avoirdupois, or international) pound is officially defined as 453.59237 grams. Thus, a person weight is 140 lb, or in kg: 140 x 0.45359237=63.503 kg. The recommended dose of a drug for this weight is : 17 mg/kg x 63.503 kg=1709.5 mg = 1.71 g
