Answer to Question #323341 in General Chemistry for Wellen

Question #323341

In the coal-gasification process, the reaction is: CO(g) + H2O(g) ⇌ CO2(g) + H2S(g) + H2(g). With 0.35 mol of CO and 0.40 mol of H2O placed in a 1.00-L reaction vessel, there is 0.19 mol of CO remaining. Determine the Keq at the temperature of the experiment?

0.19 – equilibrium concentration CO

Δ[CO] = 0.35 – 0.19 = 0.16 M – reacted CO

If 0.16 CO reacted with 0.16 H2O, 0.40 – 0.16 = 0.24 M H2O – equilibrium concentration H2O

Formed CO2: 0.16 M

Formed H2: 0.16 M

Equilibrium constant:
