Take the reaction NH3+O2=NO+H2O.In an experiment, 3.25g of NH3 are allowed to react with 3.50g of O2
Assuming the question is which is the limiting reagent
We find moles of NH3 as;
Moles of NH3= "\\dfrac{3.25g}{17.031g\/mol} = 0.191mol"
According to balanced equation;
4NH3 + 5O2 "\\to" 4NO + 6H2O
mole ratio of NH3:O2 = 4:5
moles of O2 required for complete reaction is
= "\\dfrac{5}{4}x0." 191 = 0.2385mol
However, there are only "\\dfrac{3.5g}{32g\/mol}= 0.1094mol"
Thus oxygen is the limiting reagent
