Two hundred (200) grams of carbon is reacted completely with oxygen to form carbon dioxide. Calculate the volume of CO2 produced. The equation is: C(s) + O2(g) --> CO2(g)
Moles of carbon = mass/MM = 200g/12gmol-1 = 16.67mol
Moles ratio of C : CO2 = 1:1
Moles if CO2 is therefore 16.67 mol
MGV = 24dm3 at r.t.p
Volume of CO2 = (16.67mol x 24dm3)/1mol
= 400.0 dm3
