Answer to Question #295132 in General Chemistry for Kabirzerkey

Question #295132

A solid sample known to consist of approximately equal amounts of two or more of the following soluble salts. AgNO, ZnCL K.CO, MgSO, Ba(C2H302)2NH4NO3 A sample of the solid, sufficient to give least 0.04 mol of any single salt, was added to 100 mL of water, yielding a white precipitate and a clear solution. The precipitate was collected and rinsed with water. When a portion of the precipitate was placed in dilute HNO,, it completely dissolved. leaving a colorless solution. A second portion of the precipitate was placed in dilute HCI, yielding a precipitate and a clear solution. Finally, the filtrate from the original precipitate was treated with excess NH₁, yielding a white precipitate. Indicate which of the soluble salts must be present in the sample, which must be absent and those for which there is insufficient information to make this determination

Present salts

ZnCl"\\to" will form white precipitate with NH"_{4(aq)}^+"

"\\to" it will not react with HCl

Absent salts

NH4 NO3 and AgNO3 "\\to" If they precipitated on water after reaching saturation they would have remained as precipitate when Dil HNO3 was added.

Insufficient information

"K_2CO_3,MgSO_4,Ba(C_2H_3O_2)_2"
