A gas is contained in a metal cylinder with a piston, so that the volume of the cylinder can change. If the gas initially occupies volume of 706 ml at 403 mmHg, what will be the volume if the temperature is kept constant and the pressure is changed to 255 mmHg?

If initial and final pressure is P1 and P2 respectively.


And Initial and final Volume is V1 and V2 respectively.


Then P1 V1 = P2 V2


( 403 mm ) . ( 706 ml ) = ( 255 mm ) . V2


V2 = ( 403 × 706 / 255 ) ml .


V2 = 1115. 75 ml = 1.11575 litre .
