Explain how the effective nuclear charge changes on going from oxygen to fluorine and whether you would expect this change to have a more profound effect on the 1s orbital or a 2p orbital.

Going from oxygen to fluorine, the nuclear charge increases because nuclear charge increases across the period which causes an increase in attraction between the outermost electron and the nucleus.

Since they are both mainly 2p elements then the increas in the nuclear charge will have more effect on the 2p orbital
