In clothing state cling occurs from state electricity.

This happens when electrostatic charge build up on clothes when pieces of fabric rub against each other.

Fabric softeners impacts antistatic properties to fabrics and thus prevent the build up of electrostatic charge on synthetic fibres which in turn eliminates fabric cling during handling and wearing.

The best type of detergents for removing static cling are the one that include fabric softener in their formulas.

Examples are

Tide plus Downy and Arm and Hammer plus Softener.
