An aqueous solution is prepared by dissolving 14.2 ml of methanol (ρ = 0.793 g/ml) in enough water to
produce 75.0 ml of solution. What is the concentration of this solution expressed as (a) % methanol by
volume and (b) % m/v?
1)To get the percentage by volume =
(14.2/75)×100=18.93%
2)To get the percentage of mass by volume.
To get the mass of the solute,
Mass=density × volume
Mass=0.793×14.2
Mass=11.26g
So percentage of mass by volume is
(11.26÷75)×100
=15%
