In this modern day and age, the only contribution which I see as necessary is to cure the environmental neurosis that seems to be afflicting so many people. There is nothing wrong with the World or its climate except thinking makes it so. The World is mostly empty and is in better condition and is able to support a greater number of people at a better standard of living than at any time during its history. There are no shortages of anything, anywhere in the world. All the hardships you see which are colouring your world view are the result of war, not environmental degradation. The World is just fine but due to our painless and luxurious existence, Western society has become neurotic and believes in all sorts of fantasies and horror stories.
