Which of the following would be most soluble in a hexane solvent: (i) PS, (ii) PTFE, or (iii) PVC? Explain and support your answer in your own words.
Polystyrene (PS) is a non polar compound that has the most covalent character of the 3 chemicals above, because of its equally distributed electron bonds and therefore will dissolve the most in a hexane solvent.
Unlike PTFE which although is non polar, is generally insoluble in almost all solvents because of the fluorine in it's structure and PVC which is polar and as a rule cannot dissolve in non polar solvents"."
