Answer to Question #248816 in General Chemistry for tannu

Question #248816

For the reaction, Cl2(g)+2NO(g) 2NOCl(g), the initial concentrations, [Cl2]0 and [NO]0 are given below along the corresponding with initial rates. (5) [Cl2]0/M [NO]0/M Initial rate/Ms-1 0.10 0.10 3.010-3 0.20 0.10 6.010-3 0.20 0.20 2.410-2 Determine (i) the rate constant.

The rate law for the reaction Rate =k[NO] 2 [Cl 2]

Rate constant can be calculated by substituting the value of rate, [NO] and [Cl 2] for any experiment

k=Rate/ [NO]2 [Cl 2]

= 0.6/(0.15)2 (0.15)2

= 0.6/0.003375

=177.77mol-2 L 2min -1
