Answer to Question #245940 in General Chemistry for nono

Question #245940

Ammonium perchlorate NH4ClO4 is the solid rocket fuel used by the U.S. Space Shuttle. It reacts with itself to produce nitrogen gas N2, chlorine gas Cl2, oxygen gas O2, water H2O, and a great deal of energy.

2NH4ClO4----> N2 + Cl2 + 2O2 + 4H2O

From the balanced equation above,

2 moles of NH4ClO4 produces 1mol of N2

0.800mol will produce 1/2 x 0.800 = 0.400mol of N2
