Question #224775

How do you deduce the fractional atomic masses of elements from the relative isotopic abundance?

Expert's answer

To calculate the fractional mass (M) of element you need to sum up multiplications of isotopic masses (Mi) and their abundances (Wi).

M=(MiWi)M=\sum(Mi*Wi), if Wi is fraction.

M=(MiWi/100)M=\sum(Mi*Wi/100) , if Wi is percentage.
