1. Briefly define the term thermodynamic system.
Distinguish between the three (3) main types of thermodynamic systems. [10marks]
1.A thermodynamic system is a body of matter and/or radiation, confined in space by walls, with defined permeabilities, which separate it from its surroundings.A widely used distinction is between isolated, closed, and open thermodynamic systems.
2.An open system can exchange matter and energy. A closed system can exchange energy (e.g. heat) but not matter. An isolated system cannot exchange energy or matter.
