Differentiate between the following types of bonds, using an illustration in each case to assist in your answer.
i. Metallic bonding
ii. Hydrogen bonding
iii. Ionic bonding
a)metalic is bonding that occurs in metal
b) This leads to giant structures of metal atoms arranged in a regular pattern.
C) Eg. Gold, silver, copper etc
2) hydrogen bonding
a)Hydrogen bonding is a special type of dipole-dipole attraction between molecules, not a covalent bond to a hydrogen atom.
b) It results from the attractive force between a hydrogen atom covalently bonded to a very electronegative atom such as a N, O, or F atom and another very electronegative atom.
c) eg. Water, ammonia
3) ionic bonding
a) Ionic bonding is the complete transfer of valence electron(s) between atoms.
b) It is a type of chemical bond that generates two oppositely charged ions.
