a. Assuming that the acid is a strong monoprotic acid, what is the molarity of the acid?
b. Assuming that the molarity of the acid is the same as the hydronium ion [H3O+] concentration, what is the pH of the acid?
Ans:-
(a) Monoprotic acids are acids that can release only one proton per molecule and have one equivalence point. Strong Monoprotic acid dissociate completely into its ions and its molarity is equal to the concentration of its ions.
"HA\\to H^+ +A^-"
"\\therefore [HA]=[H^+]=[A^-]"
(b) If molarity of the acid is the same as the hydronium ion [H3O+] concentration then
"\\implies[H_3O^+]=1\\times10^{-7}\\\\\npH=-log[H_3O^+]=-log[1\\times10^{-7}]=-(-7)=7"
Thus "pH=7"
