Hydrogen can be made in the “water gas reaction”
C (s) + H2O (g) → H2 (g) + CO (g)
If you begin with 250. L of gaseous water at 120oC and 2.0 atm, how many grams of H2 can be made?
using PV = nRT
n = PV/RT
n = 2 x 250/(0.082 x 393)
= 15.52 moles of water
1 mole of water = 1 mole of h2
18g water = 2g H2
15.52g water = 2 x 15.52 / 18
= 1.72g H2
