1. Component A and B were successfully separated through one of the gas chromatographic techniques. The following data was obtained.
α= 1.03, Ka = 2.3 L = 2.806 m H = 2.415 mm
Calculate
i) The plate number (N),
ii) efficient plate number of A (Neff(A)) and B (Neff(B))
iii) resolution the separation (Rs)
iv) Peak width of A (WbA)
v) mobile uphold time (tM).
i)"N=16(tr\/W)^2"
N, the number of theoretical plates, is one index used to determine the performance and effectiveness of columns
ii)"N= 2\u03c0(tr.H\/A)^2"
Width is calculated from the peak area and height values. This method provides relatively accurate and reproducible widths, even for distorted peaks, but results in somewhat larger N values when peak overlap is significant.
