Question #163856

An air compressor contains 11.5L of gas at 1.10atm. If the pressure inside the compressor has to be increased to 4.3atm without changing its temperature, what should be the final volume setting?

Expert's answer

Initial pressure, P1 = 1.10 atm

Initial volume, V1 = 11.5 L

Final pressure, P2 = 4.3 atm

Final Volume, V2 = x L (say)

We know at constant temperature

P1V1=P2V2P1V1 = P2V2

Or,V2=P1V1/P2Or, V2 = P1V1/P2

Or,V2=(1.1×11.5)/4.3Or, V2 = (1.1×11.5)/4.3

Or,V2=2.942Or, V2 = 2.942

Hence,the final volume setting = 2.942 L
