Answer to Question #144671 in General Chemistry for evelyn

Question #144671
When 17.75 g of Cl2 gas is filled into a 3-L closed container at 27oC, the internal
pressure of the container increased to 1.6 atm. Determine whether Cl2 gas behaves as
an ideal gas at this condition. State the conditions when a gas deviates from an ideal
behavior. Explain your answer.

The behavior of real gases usually agrees with the predictions of the ideal gas equation to within 5% at normal temperatures and pressures. At low temperatures or high pressures, real gases deviate significantly from ideal gas behavior.Other gases, such as carbon dioxide or ammonia, have stronger inter molecular forces and consequently greater deviation from ideality. Non ideal behavior is quite pronounced for any gas at very high pressures or at temperatures just above the boiling point
