What is the new % (m/v) concentration when water is added to 25.0 mL of 20.0% (m/v) NaOH to make 300.0 mL of a diluted NaOH solution?

We know the formula,

V1S1 = V2S2

Where, V1 & S1 are volume and concentration of solution of NaOH solution before the dilution.

And, V2 & S2 are volume and concentration of solution of NaOH solution after the dilution.


Given, V1 = 25.0 mL, S1= 20.0%(m/v)

V2 = 300 mL

So, S2 = V1S1/V2

= (25×20/300) %(m/v)

= 1.667 %(m/v)


So,

The new concentration = 1.667 % (m/v)
