Differences in Physical Properties:
- Most of the metals conduct heat and electricity well. Nonmetals are usually poor conductors.
- Metals are mostly malleable and ductile. Nonmetals tend to be brittle in their solid state.
Differences in Chemical Properties:
- Metals usually donate their electrons during chemical reactions and form cations. Nonmetals are more electronegative and in ionic compounds they are present as anions (accept electrons).
- Metals form mostly basic or amphoteric oxides, while oxides of nonmetals are either acidic or neutral.
