The enthalpy decreases when a strong acid is neutralized by a strong base.

The exothermic reaction, therefore, releases energy, and the heat-energy potential (enthalpy) falls.

The enthalpy of the neutralization reaction occurring between strong monobasic acids and strong monoacid bases does not depend on their nature, since the same reaction occurs in solutions.

Standard enthalpy of neutralization — the enthalpy of the reaction of strong acids and bases to form 1 mole of water under standard conditions:

HCl + NaOH = NaCl + H2O

H+ + OH - = H2O, "\\Delta H" -55,9 kJ/mol
