is there a way to remove furnace oil from a cork float and if so would i use shellac to prevent it from re-occuring

There is a way to remove furnice oil from a cork float by use of Shellac.

Shellac is a lot more pleasant to use, but it gives wood a dark color under a clear finish.

Great care should be taken when removing paints, due to fact that some oil are glazing putty, great care should be taken to prevent yourself from contacting bare wood.
