Answer to Question #114838 in General Chemistry for maria

Question #114838
You have 250. mL of 0.207 M HCL. Using a volumetric pipet, you take 50.00 mL of that solution and dilute it to 100.00 mL in a volumetric flask. Now you take 10.00 mL of that solution, using a volumetric pipet, and dilute it to 100.00 mL in a volumetric flask. What is the concentration of hydrochloric acid in the final solution? M1V1= M2V2

For the first step

M1= 0.207 M

V1 =50ml

V2= 100ml

So, M2 = (0.207×50)/ 100

= 0.1035 M

Now for the 2nd step

V1= 10 ml

M1= 0.1035 M

V2= 100 ml

M2= (0.1035×10)/ 100

= 0.01035 M

The concentration of hydrochloric acid in the final solution is 0.01035 M
