So, first you need to dissolve the substance. If it dissolves, check the reaction of the medium, preferably with phenolphthalein indicator. If the color of the solution has changed to raspberry, then we have an alkali. If the substance has dissolved, but the color of the indicator has not changed, or the substance has not dissolved, then it is necessary to treat it with a solution of a strong acid (optimally, chloride) and see if gas is released.
