Why hydra has both types of digestion

For hydra food is stored in the gastrovascular cavity. Enzymes secreted by the hydra break down food from absorption.
Hydra also use extracellular digestion and secretes molecules to break down the substrate. Intracellular digestion takes place inside the cell.
