Answer to Question #63978 in Zoology for Sanjukta Ghosh

Question #63978
I was reading about composite fish farming and stumbled upon the dual use of Mahua oilcakes.
It was said that the saponin in mahua oilcake initially acts as a piscicide and then the cakes get detoxified to act as a manure. How do they detoxify? Is it through simple diffusion, as the saponin is lost the oilcakes are said to be detoxified?
