2 Explain how global conditions influenced the progression towards bipedal locomotion in early apes in Africa
Fossil evidence would thus indicate that terrestrial bipedalism emerged in the Hominoidea in the late Miocene, between approximately 10 and 5 Ma. There now also exists plentiful indirect evidence from geological and palaeoecological studies that bears on the timing of the evolution of hominid bipedalism.
