Trematoda is a class within the phylum

Platyhelminthes . It includes two groups of parasitic

flatworms , known as flukes .

Although trematodes are mostly associated with aquatic fauna as fish and mollusks, they also affect various vertebrates as part of the indirect life cycle

Most often, trematodes depend on several hosts to complete their life cycle

They have a well branched alimentary canal consisting of an esophagus and muscular anus. However, their intestines do not lead to the anus, but instead branch into common excretory vesicles.

Trematodes have two specialised suckers, one on the mouth, the other in the middle part of the body hence easier attachment to the host as they suck them.
