Following are some threats:

  1. The sewage water and industrial water are directly discharged into the sea that may contain toxic substances and are hazardous to marine animals.
  2. The oil spills due to the movement of ships or due to any other reasons decrease the oxygen content of the seawater and thus affect the marine animals. It also disrupts the insulating property of the water.
  3. People throw plastic waste into the seawater. Sometimes these plastics are engulfed by marine organisms like the tortoise and this proves lethal for them.
