The fish exchange gases by drawing oxygen rich water in through their mouth,it pumps it over the gills so oxygen enters in the blood stream.

In some fish capillary blood flows in the opposite direction of the water hence causes counter-current exchange.

Through this process the fish gets enough water which flows in the gills.
