Marine fishes face osmotic challenges in that the salt content in their blood is much lower than that of seawater, they constantly tend to lose water and built up salt. In order to overcome this, osmoregulators tightly regulate their body osmolarity maintaining constant internal conditions. This enable marine fishes to actively excretes salt out from the gills.
