Pollination in plants is of two types: self-pollination and cross pollination. Cross pollination is the transfer of pollen from the flower of one plant to the flower of a plant having a different genetic constitution. The main mechanisms for ensuring cross pollination are: 1 Imperfect (or unisexual) flowers and monoecy. 2 Imperfect flowers and dioecy. 3 Dichogamy. 4 Chasmogamy. 5 Hercogamy(or herkogamy). 6 Self-sterility or self-incompatibility.
