Neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs) are networks of DNA-containing fibers that are released by neutrophils during their destruction or exocytosis of cell nucleus fragments. As a result, the process leads to the release of DNA, RNA, phospholipids and other cell components. The network binds and inactivates pathogens. As a result, NETosis is an example of the anti-microbial immune response.
