Root tip is a zone of active growth of plant tissue (root apical meristems are located there), so there takes place frequent cell division, and many cells in this region are in different stages of mitosis. For observation of mitosis we can also take the apical meristem cells, which are located on the tips of the shoots, or intercalary meristem cells from monocot plants (i.e., grass), which are located at the base of nodes and leaf blades.
