The life cycles of a Boston Terrier include:
- fertilization: a diploid embryo is formed via fusion of haploid egg cell and sperm cell inside the reproductive tract of a female.
- prenatal development: development of the embryo with the formation of tissues and organs
- birth: the emergence of a puppy from the female
- postnatal growth and development: a puppy increases the body mass and adapts to the environment. This period is commonly called adolescence.
- adulthood: an adult dog becomes independent and is ready to reproduce. Female dogs produce haploid eggs while males produce haploid spermatozoa. The reproduction period leads to fertilization and the formation of a new diploid zygote that develops into an embryo.
- finally, the dog gets old, losses reproductive function, and dies.
