Genetic code is a set of rules according to which the nucleotide sequence (gene and mRNA) is translated into an amino acid sequence (protein) in living cells. The rules of the genetic code determine which amino acid corresponds to the triplet (three nucleotides) in the mRNA. A particular amino acid can be encoded by more than one codon; there are also codons indicating the beginning and end of the protein.
