Question #93330

Outline steps involved in DNA synthesis at the replication fork. How do DNA polymerase correct their mistakes?

Expert's answer

Proofreading is a mechanism by which DNA polymerase corrects replication mistakes. Enzyme recognizes imperfection between newly paired nucleotides, deletes the last nucleotide and adds the correct one. As a result the error rate goes down considerably.
