1.3 Name and briefly discuss three important features of the genetic code
- Genetic code is universal meaning that from bacteria to humans same three letter code will form the same amino acid. There are very few exceptions to it.
- The genetic code is degenerate i.e. a single amino acid may be coded for by more than one codon.
- The code is non-overlapping. This means that successive triplets are read in order. Each nucleotide is part of only one triplet codon.
