Genetic code is universal meaning that from bacteria to humans same three letter code will form the same amino acid. There are very few exceptions to it.
The genetic code is degenerate i.e. a single amino acid may be coded for by more than one codon.
The code is non-overlapping. This means that successive triplets are read in order. Each nucleotide is part of only one triplet codon.
