Question #51635

What are the reasons of the different life spans in a given species?

Expert's answer

Different life span in a given species is a result of both genetic and environmental factors. Certain alleles are associated with shorter lifespan in Drosophila. At the same time, environmental factors, such as toxins and unfavorable conditions lead to worn-off of the tissues and organs and thus, lead to shorter life.
