A plant sealed in an air-tight jar wil die in about a week. An animal placed in a similar air-tight jar will die in a matter of hours.

The plant will die because it does not have carbon dioxide for photosynthesis. The animal died in a few hours since the jar was tightly closed and there was insufficient oxygen. Lack of Oxygen reduces muscular activity leading to suffocation.
