Usual treatment in case of Trichomonas infection is single oral does of antibiotic called metronidazole. Sometimes antibiotic treatment is extended to seven days. All the sexual partners of the infected patient should also receive treatment. Nevertheless, in the past decade the treatment became less successful (fails in 3.5% of the cases). As a result, protected sex and regular tests of person and his or her partner for STD are necessary to prevent the disease spreading.
