Thermodynamics is a branch of physics that deals with heat, function, temperature and their relationship to energy, radiation and the physical properties of matter. Energy can neither be created nor destroyed but can be transformed.

Before we can cook anything, we need heat and as a result of the heat applied, it weakens the intramolecular forces withing the food making it softer and edible. Take for instance, the intake of carbohydrates (energy giving food) which gives off heat. The temperature of a body has to do with the the average kinetic energy underlying the molecules that makes up the body.

A responsible consumerism has to do with consumption that is environmental friendly hence the rational to be considered should be:

  • Commodities with a low carbon footprint;
  • Organic products;
  • Goods that preserve the quality of soil, water and air and generally prevent pollution, deforestation and the depletion of natural resources.
